Review: Wrath of the Titans

I'm not going to lie, I only saw about 30 minutes of the end of the Clash of the Titans and the only thing I was impressed with was the effects. But sometimes, in a relationship, you have to see movies you wouldn't normally see. So, when looking for our weekly movie to see, Wrath of the Titans was the only thing that a) we haven't seen OR b) that remotely interested me. So, we paid the extra money for 3D and settled in for what I thought would be a lame movie.
Was I surprised. It wasn't half bad. The effects were awesome, as expected and the 3D made both me and K. jump a few times. I could have used more fighting scenes, but K. thought there was just enough in it. And he said it was much better than the first one.
The film picks up I would say at least 10 years later, as Perseus (Sam Worthington) is living as a mortal instead of a god with his son. But the son of Zesus (Liam Neeson) obviously can't always live as a mortal, especially when humans are not praying to the gods anymore (again) and there is a threat of another battle with the Titans. Perseus says he will not accompany his father to the underworld to help out. However, as Zesus is trying to convince his brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and other son Ares (Edgar Ramirez) not to join forces with the Titans and their leader Kronos, also the father of Zesus, Poseidon and Hades. Hades and Ares capture Zesus to take his powers to make Kronos stronger.
As the Titans start to attack the mortal world, Perseus prays to his father, only to find out that he is captured. With the help of the queen Adromeda and Poseidon's demigod son Agenor, they travel to the underworld to rescue Zesus and essentially save the world from Kronos and the Titans.
Pretty straight forward to me. As far as if it stays true to Greek mythology, I couldn't tell you as I used to fall asleep in my ninth grade English class when we studied it. But, after seeing this film and the end of the first, I kind of want to research it a little bit, as the gods always did fascinate me.
As I mentioned, the effects were pretty awesome, as seeing Kronos come to life was pretty amazing and pretty realistic. The end kind of left it open for another movie that involves Perseus' son, the grandson of Zesus.
Ladies, if your man wants to see this movie. Go ahead and see it. It has eye candy, a little bit of comedy, a little bit of romance and it's only an hour and 40 minutes! Definitely worth it. And pay the extra cash for the 3D, it was filmed in 3D so it's worth it.
3 stars.
