What a fantastic ride! If you’re not into comic books, then this is your summer movie. It has action, romance, comedy AND a good plot, which is hard to find sometimes.
This sixth installment of the Fast series, picks up where the fifth one left off. Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew are retired and living under the radar around the world, as they are wanted in the U.S. Toretto lives with Elena (Elsa Pataky), the cop from the fifth film, and Mia (Jordana Brewster), Dom’s sister, lives with Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) with their child in the Canary Islands. The rest of the crew is just reaping the benefits of their last heist. Over in London, DSS agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is trying to track down an international terrorist, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Realizing he’s in over his head, Hobbs reaches out to Toretto and entices him to get his crew together for ‘one last job’ with a photo of his former flame, and presumed dead, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). Now intrigued with getting his family back together, Toretto is determined to find Shaw and Letty at any cost.
Throw in a lot of car chases (obviously), the great comedic timing of Tyrese and Ludacris, as Roman and Taj respectively, and the slight romance with Toretto and Letty and that’s Fast and Furious 6. But it’s not really as simple as I describe, there are plot twists, reference to previous films and a fantastic teaser in the credits that not only preview of the next film, but brings the series to the present (as most Fast and Furious fans know that films four and five went back in time before Tokoyo Drift). The sixth with the teaser ends in Tokyo. Fantastic setup! And without giving anything away, I will tell you that the villain in the next one will be great!
The car chases are out of this world. I couldn’t even count how many times Diesel and Johnson randomly jumped from cars and planes and landed without injury. The fight scenes were great too. The chick fights between Letty and Hobbs’ partner were perfectly timed, while the fight with Taj, Roman and one of Shaw’s henchmen was just funny. However, the fight scene with O’Connor and a former bad guy in prison isn’t too believable, but I can overlook that (especially since I overlooked how ridiculous the ‘jumps’ were). The plane scene was out of this world as well. I have to say, I was a little leery of how they were bringing Letty back, but I’ll believe that one too.
For those that don’t really know anything about the films, the credits at the beginning and flashbacks are great wrap-ups to bring you up to speed.
I have to say, this is only the second film of the summer to get a solid four stars from me. This should be on your must see list this year for the ladies and gents.
The crew gets sidetracked as they head to Arizona to drop Alan off at a treatment center. Throw in a few murders, a beheaded giraffe and a naked Chow and that’s it in a nutshell.
In this third installment, it is one year after the Avengers left off and Tony Stark is battling his demons. While tinkering with his toys, a terrorist, the Mandarin, is wrecking havoc around the world. After Happy gets injured, Stark seeks revenge on the Mandarin.
In this Baz Luhrmann adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jay Gatsy and Tobey Maguire plays Nick Carraway. The film stays true to the book, telling the story of Gatsby’s lavish lifestyle to win back his old flame, Daisy.
The 12th installment of the Star Trek franchise, directed by J.J. Abrams, packs a big punch. The crew of the USS Enterprise finds themselves face to face with a huge enemy, Khan. They must destroy him before he essentially destroys the world.
Based on the true story of a group of body builders/personal trainers looking to get rich fast. Their plan to kidnap a rich businessman and extort his money spirals out of control into the world of torture, drugs and murder.
