It's Nice To Know...

...that there are people out there who genuinely enjoy their jobs.  It's gotten to a point in my life where I'm re-evaluating everything, and I often have a lot of doubt in people.  And I often wonder if people really truly love their jobs.

My hairdresser is someone who genuinely loves her job.  I was hesitant at first to go to Hairsay in New Hyde Park.  *Note: Christine has since opened her own shop.* It's a 'fancy' salon that charges from $50 and up for a haircut.  I was so used to paying $30 and never being happy when I walked out, figuring it will just grow out.  Well, I was at a point in my life where I needed a change and I figured, why not start with my hair.  I wanted to get the final remnants of the blond highlights out. I wanted it shorter.  But I wanted to be happy at the end of the cut. I wanted to feel better about myself. More confident.  I got the number to Hairsay and made an appointment with Christine Adkins.  She was recommended by a friend.

My first haircut there, Christine sat me down and asked what I wanted.  She made recommendations and together we decided what would work best.  Then she went to work.  I LOVED IT.  I felt so confident after.  It was an amazing experience.  My hair looked great and I felt great.  And the best part was, Christine made me feel like she knew me forever.  Her recommendations were dead on.  I put my trust in her and I was not disappointed.  She did recommend that I get my hair cut every six weeks (and as much as I'd love to feel this great after every six weeks, my budget doesn't allow it).  However, I made a decision then that I would add a few more cuts to my routine of two times a year.

About four months later I went back and it was like time had not passed.  Not only did she remember what she did the last time, but she again made great recommendations and she even gave me suggestions of where I should look for co-ops and condos.  It kind of made me want to be friends with her. Ha.

Well, four months later and here I am, feeling great once again.  At the end of the cut, as she was styling my hair, I could see how excited she was. Making sure every hair was perfect.  That my hair was shaped perfectly before she put gel in it.  And she made a comment, "Can you tell I love my job?"  And I really could.

I am in awe of her. I know nothing about this woman, but I want to be like her.  I'm sure she's had her share of heartbreaks and bad times.  But the few times I've been with her, in those 35 minutes, she makes me feel like I'm the only person she's seen all day.  She makes me feel welcome.  She remembers things that we discussed in the past (which is pretty good, considering I only see her 3-4 times a year).  That is a talent in itself.  For all I know, she could hate the people she cuts hair for.  She could not like me.  But, like I said, I do not get that feeling from her.  And that generosity and love for her job, just makes me feel so good.

If anyone is looking for a great cut or style or anything, I highly recommend Christine.  She has since opened up her own salon in Garden City South.  Here's the info:
