Episode 9: Head (Aired Dec. 11, 2013)
This week’s episode was a teaser, as the next episode won’t air for another three weeks due to the holidays. And just when it’s slightly getting better, and the story is starting to pull together.
We begin with some background on Hank, Cordelia’s husband. Turns out, he’s been brought up by his father to hunt witches, however, he’s never really had it in him to kill them as a boy. But now, to prove his father wrong, he’s been on this killing spree, and as we know, is in cahoots with Marie Laveau. His father isn’t happy about this, as he was just supposed to do a little recon for the Corporation. We learn that the Corporation was actually behind Cordelia’s acid incident, which infuriates Hank, as that’s his wife! He’s unconvincing and is soon rambling some pledge about how all witches are bad. Can’t disappoint daddy! Oh and it was Hank going after Misty at her swamp home.
Back at the house Cordelia is getting frustrated with not having her sight, and Myrtle basically begging her to believe that she did not have a hand in the incident. Vowing to try and help, Myrtle ‘sacrifices’ the lives of the Council and donates their eyes to Cordelia, and wah-la, say a little spell and she has her sight back. But gone are her ‘visions,’ unfortunately.
As her and Misty have a spell party in the greenhouse, Hank comes to ‘reconcile’ with Cordelia, but she won’t have it and kicks him out. And after a run-in with Fiona, he’s angry.
Meanwhile, Fiona is on a mission to get Marie on her side, as she knows someone is out hunting witches, after last week’s attack on her neighbor. She returns the head of Madame LaLaurie, which is still alive. Marie refuses to join forces with Fiona and orders Queenie to burn LaLaurie’s head. Instead, Queenie forces LaLaurie to watch some black cinema to force her to stop being a racist. However, soon after Fiona leaves, Marie finds herself under attack, by none other than Hank. Queenie, being the human voodoo doll that she is, saves the day, but I’m not sure she actually survived. We’ll see. Worried, Marie heads over to Fiona’s, as she reconsiders her offer.
And in the other two annoying subplots, Nan goes to visit Luke, who’s in a coma after he was shot last week, in the hospital. At first, his mother refuses to let the girls into his room, but after learning of Nan’s powers and how she can get inside Luke’s brain, she believes the Lord brought Nan to her as a gift. But things get ugly when Luke starts revealing his mother’s secrets through Nan. And back at the house, Fiona discovers Franken-Kyle. She realizes he could be their human guard dog and offer them protection for the war that’s about to start, so she ‘fixes him,’ sort of.
I’m glad the story is moving along, but it’s still too slow for my pace. We have four more episodes left. I know that we’re supposed to see more of Luke and his mother, but I’m not really sure what part they will play. Maybe his mother is really a witch? Maybe she’s the supreme? That’d be a twist. And who else is part of the Corporation? Will they continue their mission after Hank’s death? Or maybe Misty can work her magic? I mean, after all, no one really dies on this show. Even in the first season, after people died, they just stayed as ghosts on the property. Job security for actors, I guess. I have to say, this episode was a better one this season, so let’s just hope it continues back up to be good again.
Here is your guide to season two, which is about an asylum in Massachusetts and what lurks behind the walls
