Episode 3: Nor’easter (Aired Oct. 31, 2012)

Everything bad happens during a storm, and the nor’easter that hits Boston in 1964 is no exception. This episode we learn a little bit more about Sister Jude’s past, the creatures in the yard and the newly possessed Sister Mary.

Again we start in present day, where the assumed-dead Leo is actually not dead and saves his wife. However, it’s not for long when they try to escape Briarcliff and they are shot by not one, but two BloodyFaces. Turns out, they were just kids dressed up, until yet another BloodyFace shows up.

Back in 1964, Sister Mary gives Sister Jude her mail and informs her a storm is coming and they’ll need to calm the patients down. In with her mail, is an old newspaper from 1949 with the headline about the child she killed with her car. She’s confused as to where it came from. She lets Sister Mary know there will be a movie night, so to distract the patients from the storm.

Sister Mary informs the patients about the movie and is confront by one of them who calls her the devil. Later that night, Sister Mary shows up in the woman’s room, kills her and feeds her to the creatures in the yard. When she goes to get approval from Dr. Arden, she throws herself at him, but he rejects her.

As the patients get ready for movie night, Lana Winters asks Dr. Thredson to get a message to her lover, Wendy. He later tells her that he believes something bad has happened to her, as when he went to her house, there was evidence that BloodyFace was there. This makes Winters trust Kit now. So when Kit, Grace and Shelley try to make another escape, she joins them to show them the way out, during the movie. However, just as they are escaping a guard comes. Shelley stays behind to distract him and ends up getting caught by Dr. Arden. As he attempts to rape her, the three who escaped run into the creatures in the yard, so they run back inside.

And while all this is going on, Sister Jude gets drunk for the first time in 15 years and is confronted yet again by the child who she killed, or so she thinks. After a drunken speech before the film, Sister Jude walks the hallways looking for the missing patient, who Sister Mary killed, and runs into an alien!!!!! Crazy, I know! And because she already thinks she’s losing it, we all know that she’ll think it was an illusion.

Dr. Arden’s character is explored a little bit more. After doing an experiment on the ‘thing’ that came out of Kit, he confronts him about it. Of course, Kit has no clue what he’s talking about. And after attempting to rape Shelley, he knocks out and cuts off her legs! I believe the creatures in the yard are his creations. All different body parts and skin from different people into one person. If that makes sense. Sort of like the doctor who lived in the house first in the first season, how he made a pig child.

And it is very clear that Sister Mary is possessed. Either that or she’s gone nuts. I kind of like the way her character is going. Innocent but dirty at the same time. She’s definitely going to cause problems around the asylum.

Not really sure where the present day storyline is going. And I was confused as to how Leo could be stabbed several times, have lost all the blood from the missing arm, but yet he found the strength to get up and attack BloodyFace.

There is still a lot going on, with a lot of questions.
